Resonator Work

I had the pleasure of working on a really nice resonator guitar recently, making a new bridge and nut from rosewood. It’s the first time I’ve worked on one, so part of the task was working out how it all came apart… and then went back together. I also fitted a body mounted jack socket as the pickup was connected directly to a cable, which was gaffer-taped to the body!

All in all, the client was really pleased with the work, and the guitar sounded great with its new parts.

Fret Levelling

Today I’m levelling the frets on a Fender Stratocaster. Over time the frets wear, leaving small divets in the metal. When you start to hear your chords sounding out of tune, even when the guitar is in tune, it’s probably time to check those frets!
